PROBLEM SOLVING GOALS |
The Big Brain Theory is an American television show on the Discovery Channel that first aired in 2013. Each week the contestants enter the blueprint challenge, where they are given 30 minutes to solve an engineering problem using only an electronic blackboard. The 2 contestants with the best solutions are then chosen to be leaders of teams who now have to build a working solution. The teams are given a certain time and budget to finish the task. Having your students watch one of these videos would be a great lead-in to a similar project that you could adapt to the lesson being taught to help your students use these critical thinking and decision making skills as well as leadership and collaboration skills. Our link will allow you to watch one video which is pretty long, but you could show pertinent clips of it. Google The Big Brain Theory to find links to the other 7 episodes that were aired to find which one best suits your needs.

WebQuest? A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web. WebQuests are a way to make good use of the internet while engaging students in the kinds of thinking that the 21st century requires. A real WebQuest....is wrapped around a doable and interesting task; requires higher level thinking, not simply summarizing; makes good use of the web; isn't a research report or a step-by-step science or math procedure; and isn't just a series of web-based experiences. There are oodles of shared WebQuests available for your use in practically any subject area or to enhance learning of content standards.
